WHAT'S UNDER YOUR TREES?

You know about the typical tree skirts available for home trees, well fug-geda-boudit! Instead we suggest you visit your local fabric shop and buy bolts of gold, silver and bronze colored lame'. Then, puddle, puddle, puddle. This will give you an elegant, rich, professional touch. And stay away from the cotton batting that is supposed to look like snow. You’ll find the lame’ fabric a far better choice.

To complete the look, check out our colorful ribbon page 58 and 59.  We also have prettyornamental bows that can be put on foil covered boxes.  A few props that coordinate with your theme, and voila!

Warning: In the old days it was customary for the designer/fabricator to just take old cardboard boxes and wrap them with Holiday wrap paper from a store.  Result?  Some pretty awful gift boxes. Little duckies, lots of teddy bears. You get the idea. They did not look professional and after being used for a few years they were pretty beat up and tacky.  Finish off your “under the tree scape” with great product and panache.  Gold lame’ and beautiful wore box shapes hold up forever and stay classy.

Top It Off!

If you were fixing an Ice Cream Sundae, you would put a cherry on top.  For Holiday trees you need a topper as well.

Many the ‘scaper uses a large bow, or lush figure Check out pages 3, 57 and 59 in the Autograph catalog for our suggestions. If you do use ribbon make sure there a bunch of “tails” of various lengths.  More are better!!

Showroom or Not?

In the past, companies with large facilities often set up a Holiday Showroom. They filled them with beautifully decorated trees, wreaths and garland, and props. Then they invited their clients for wine and cheese. For larger, well located Interior 'Scapers it was a good ploy. But for the smaller, not so well located company it was usually money and labor poorly spent.

You just cannot do what you hear some other company did. Instead you have to continually embrace the new and exciting!! One option is to rent out for a few months an unoccupied store at your local Mall.

Heck, the Mall Manager will be tickled pink to get a few bucks for a couple of months.

The truth is that with computers and cell phone photography, why not set up a visual presentation complete with voice over and music and email away. The presentation shows an overview and not a specific design.  It is meant as a foot in the door and to establish credibility.

Get The Appointment!

Take along a manageable piece of greenery, say an old branch cut from an old tree, filled with different ornaments, different colors, finishes and textures and get the signature of approval. In other words (my apologies to Saturday Night Live) a Showroom in a box.  Now go out there and get ‘em, Tigers!
